The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research(PGIMER) was established in the year 1962. The institution is one of the top institutes of medical education in India. Currently, the institution functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Indian Nursing Council, and the Government of India.
The institution was started with an aim to provide students with quality education and facilities to become highly qualified medical teachers and doctors. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research(PGIMER) offers more than 50 medical courses such as Medical Courses, Para-Medical Courses, Nursing Courses, Residency Programs, Short-term Training, Elective Training, and MHA, MPH, PGDPHM and Fellowship Courses.
Facilities such as Hostels, Water Sports, Library, Playground, Laboratories, etc, are offered to the students. Admission is offered on the basis of an entrance examination known as INI CET(Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test).
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research(PGIMER)(Chandigarh) placement cell is one of the best in the country. The placement cell helps the students to get internships under reputed doctors and institutions. Students after graduating get good jobs in many hospitals in the country and also abroad.
PGIMER, Chandigarh Facilities
Following are the facilities offered by the institute to cater to the need of the students and the faculty members:
Library- The institution has a spacious well-constructed library named ‘Dr. Tulsi Das Library’.The library is open for students and faculty round the clock even on Saturdays and Sundays. The library has 45696 Books,57610 Journals, Videocassettes, and CDs. The library is a part of the British Library, DELNET, and ERMED CONSORTIA. The library has other facilities like wifi, CCTV, RFID.
Playground -The institution has a huge playground on campus which is used by students to play games such as Cricket, football, basketball, and Kabaddi.
Hostels- The institution has 5 hostels named Married Doctors Hostel, Old Doctors Hostel, Kairon Doctor Hostel, New Doctors Hostel, and Sanjeevani Hostel. The hostels have a capacity of 800 people.
Water Sports Complex- A new water sports complex was built a few months ago. The complex consists of an eight-lane swimming pool,Health club, Cafeteria.
PGIMER, Chandigarh Faculty
The faculty members aim to give the students education that will help them to become professional doctors. The director of the institution, Mr. Jagat ram is an MBBS graduate from Himachal Pradesh.
